How FIFO works

FIFO means "first in, first out": when you sell, the coins you bought first count as the ones sold. The gain on a sale is what you received, minus the sale fee, minus what those oldest coins cost you including their purchase fee. Coins you still hold keep their own cost, shown as the cost basis.

Why the method matters

The same trades can give a different taxable gain under other methods, such as average cost or "highest in, first out". Many tax authorities prescribe one method, so check which applies where you live before you rely on the number.

Limits

This is an estimate, not tax advice. It handles one coin at a time and treats losses as zero tax rather than offsetting other income, because loss rules vary widely. Staking rewards, swaps between coins and airdrops can be taxable events of their own and are not modelled.
