🎞️ Video File Size Calculator
A video's size is its bitrate (how much data each second uses) times its length. Pick a quality or type your own bitrate to see how much space the file needs.
Presets: YouTube's recommended upload bitrates for standard (SDR) video, from YouTube Help, checked October 16, 2026. For 4K the tool uses the middle of YouTube's ranges (35-45 and 53-68 Mbps).
Why bitrate decides the size
Resolution alone does not set the file size; the bitrate does. The same 1080p clip can be 60 MB per minute or 600 MB per minute depending on how it was exported. That is why the tool asks for the bitrate and only uses the resolution to suggest one.
Megabytes and megabits
Bitrates are in megabits per second (Mb), file sizes in megabytes (MB). There are eight bits in a byte, so 8 Mbps fills one megabyte each second. The tool counts 1 GB as 1,000 MB, the way disk and camera makers do; Windows uses 1,024 and shows slightly smaller numbers.
Limits
Most cameras and editors use a variable bitrate, so real files land somewhat above or below the estimate. Containers add a little overhead, typically a few percent.
